The Sotiras Municipal District of the Municipality of Ayia Napa, the Sotiras Famagusta Local Committee for Large Families and the Sotiras Municipal Library are organizing on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., a special cultural event with the theme: "Silk Brushes - A journey through the life cycle of the silkworm".
The event aims to introduce the public to the wonderful world of the silkworm, highlighting its life cycle, the process of creating silk and its connection with art, tradition and the environment. Through experiential and creative activities, visitors will have the opportunity to gain knowledge, develop their creativity and live a unique experience.
An exhibition with live silkworms will operate at the site, offering visitors a unique, experiential and educational experience.
At the same time, the space will host an exhibition of handmade frames and artistic creations made from silkworm cocoons, highlighting the creative use of natural materials and the connection between traditional sericulture and modern artistic expression.
An interactive narration of the children's book "The Silky Sis and the Sparrow Sparrow" by author Ivi Makis Savva Pieretti will follow. The narration of the fairy tale will be carried out by teacher Froso Charalambous at the Sotiras Municipal Library, at 3:00 p.m.
An interactive workshop will then be held on site on the theme: "Making our own frame with a silkworm cocoon", at 4:00 p.m. Participants will create their own original artistic work using silkworm cocoons, cultivating their imagination, creativity and environmental awareness through a pleasant and educational activity.
Through art, we attempt to "marry" tradition, which is why the space will also feature frames made from recyclable materials, some combined with silkworm cocoons and others autonomous, highlighting the creative utilization of materials and the connection of tradition with modern artistic expression.
The event "Silk Brushes" aspires to offer a comprehensive experience of knowledge, creation and entertainment, combining nature, art, tradition and environmental education.
