With all splendor and solemnity the Municipality of Sotiras celebrated the National Anniversary of April 1st and the national liberation struggle of EOKA 1955-'59.

At 10:00 the Solemn Doxology was chanted in the Holy Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior. The day's eulogy was delivered by the Member of Parliament of Famagusta, Christos Senekis. This was followed by Trisagio and the laying of wreaths at the Monument to the Fallen and Missing Saviors.

The celebrations culminated with the Famagusta Provincial Parade along Archbishop Makarios III avenue. The salute of the parade was received by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Petros Xenophontos, the Mayor of Sotira Georgios Takkas, the Metropolitan of Constantia and Famagusta Vasilios, Archimandrite Georgios Ioannou, MPs of Famagusta, the Deputy Mayor of Agia Napa, Municipal Councilors of Famagusta, Paramniou and Sotira , the Commander of the 7th M/K Infantry Brigade Brigadier General Konstantinos Kalos, representatives of parliamentary parties, the Church, the National Guard, the Police and the Fire Service of Cyprus, Principals and Teachers of Famagusta District Schools and other officials.

The parade was attended by educational institutions, organized ensembles, unions and bands from the entire province of Famagusta. The flags of the Municipalities of Famagusta, Sotiras, Paralimni, Agia Napa and Deryneia participated. The Gymnasium - Lyceum of Peace and Freedom of Deryneia - Sotiras, the Sotiras 112st, 715nd and XNUMXrd Primary Schools, the Symphonic Band "Harmonia" of the Municipality of Paralimni, the Sotiras Catechetical Synagogues, the Sotiras Municipal Choir, the Municipal Dance Club Sotiras, the Catechetical Schools of Agios Georgios, Agia Varvara and Agios Dimitrios of Paralimni, the XNUMXth Sea Scout System of Deryneia, the K.N. Onisilos Sotiras, the THI Fotiakos Frenarou – Frenaro Foteiakos Cultural Club, the Church of Panagia Agia Napa together with the Cultural Departments of the Municipality of Agia Napa and the "Melizona" Choir of the Municipality of Paralimni. Finally, the parade ended with the passage of the military-style units of the XNUMXth Sotiras Inhabited Areas Company and the Sotiras Commando Reserve Club.
