The Larnaca District Court today issued an eight-day detention order against a 33-year-old man, to facilitate Police inquiries regarding an ongoing case involving offenses in violation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and its protocols.
According to the Police, the 33-year-old was arrested yesterday, Monday, May 5, after allegedly being the smuggler of a total of 21 migrants from Syria, who were on a boat, which was spotted off Cape Greco, in the early hours of Monday, May 5.
Members of the Port Police arrived in the area and picked up the 21 people on board from Syria and transported them to Larnaca.
The migrants were transferred to the Pournara Reception and Hospitality Center for Applicants for International Protection in Kokkinotrimithia.
The Police arrested the 33-year-old and today he was brought before the Larnaca District Court, which issued a detention order against him for eight days.
The case is being investigated by the Larnaca Police Department.
