Farmers from the Famagusta district gathered in Xylofagou around 8 a.m. Then, in double-cab vehicles, they departed for the GSP for the large protest rally.
In their statements, the District Secretary of the Pan-Agricultural Association of Famagusta said that "we gathered today in Xylofagou where the start will take place with the aim of reaching the GSP which is the gathering place. We are an island, the cost of trade is multiplied, we have the cost of energy which is four times higher".
The Assistant Provincial Organizer of the Pan-Agrarian Association, Efthimios Kermanos, stated that "we want our rights for ourselves and for the entire world of Europe. Alas, if we lose the primary sector, what will become of us, and especially those of us who are on an island, we will go into starvation and we will all starve."
In their announcement, the agricultural organizations PEK, EKA, Panagrotikos, Nea Agrotiki Kinisi, Euroagrotikos, state that the united Organized Agricultural Movement of Cyprus, responding to the decisions of their European Organizations in Brussels, COPA-COGECA, (federation of Agricultural Organizations and Cooperatives of the EU member states) will participate in the Pan-European agricultural mobilization on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
They note that the central mobilization will take place in Brussels, while member states that are far away, such as Cyprus, will mobilize in their own countries.
"The main reason for the protest is the unprecedented pressure on the primary sector, the dependence on imports, the decision to change the architecture of the Common Agricultural Policy after 2027 with a reduction in the budget, the bureaucratic procedures, as well as the impacts of the climate crisis, which lead with mathematical precision to the eradication of the peasantry," they add.
