Meetings after meetings are held in the local authorities of the province of Famagusta in order to prevent any decision on the reform of local government.
Following the unanimous decisions of the councils of Ayia Napa Municipality last Tuesday and the Liopetri Community last Wednesday, for the intention to unite Ayia Napa, Liopetri and Sotira, the other communities seem concerned as a scenario that was seriously considered by the free Famagusta for the creation of a large rural Municipality with Liopetri, Avgorou, Frenaros, Achna and Acheritou.
Next Tuesday, the Presidents of the community councils of free Famagusta will hold a meeting in Achna to determine their next steps before the submission of the bill, seriously considering the possibility of a proposal for their unification in a large rural municipality, even without Liope.
Also, the Mayor of Paralimni convened a meeting next Wednesday night at the City Hall of Paralimni all the mayors and community leaders of free Famagusta with issues as stated in the letter the bill of local government and the scenarios of unification of municipalities and communities of the free province.
So far, however, two local authorities, Ayia Napa and Liopetri, have officially expressed their decision to merge with each other, including Sotira, without the latter having at least formally decided so far. On the other hand, the Mayor of Paralimni supports the scenario of unification of all four Municipalities, without of course excluding the scenario of one Municipality for the entire province of Famagusta.
