The OKYpY in its announcement refers to the case of the non-renewal of the contract of three nurses, who were employed due to Covid with the status of requisition.

In particular, it states that it cannot bypass the legal recruitment process.

Let us remind you that the Cypriot Union of Nurses and the General Nursing Staff Branch PASYDY announced yesterday that today, Tuesday 14/3, they will hold a work stoppage at the Famagusta General Hospital. Then, after the intervention of the PtD, Nikos Christodoulidis, the suspension of the work stoppage was announced.

See the announcement:

OKYpY hires with legal hiring practices that adhere to established procedures and protect the rights of all job candidates.

For the recruitment of nurses at OKYpY there are agreed procedures within the legal framework that are known to candidates, employees and employee representatives. The procedures apply universally to everyone.

Despite the exceptional performance and morale of specific nurses (3 in total) who were hired as part of a mandate in the middle of the pandemic, the OKYpY is obliged to operate based on legally compatible procedures.

Of the three affected nurses whose contracts have expired, one has already been employed under them. The remaining two applications could not proceed as they are. The two nurses are entitled to re-apply to the Organization when jobs are announced.
