The investigations by the British Bases Authorities into the tragedy that shocked Cyprus and Bulgaria are in full swing, after two brothers, aged 8 and 10, were found dead inside a parked vehicle in Xylofagou last Sunday.
New evidence is being examined by the British Base Authorities, while the children's father and stepmother are in custody. At the same time, the results of the forensic examinations are pending and the next court proceedings have already been set for Thursday, July 2 at 12 noon.
The two children had traveled from Bulgaria to Cyprus to spend their summer holidays with their father. On the day of the tragedy, the father and stepmother were absent from work, while the authorities are attempting to map the children's movements minute by minute before the tragic event.
For this purpose, statements are collected, footage from closed-circuit surveillance is examined, and every available element is utilized to determine how the two brothers ended up in the vehicle and for how long they remained there.
At the same time, the results of the forensic and laboratory tests are awaited, which will provide answers to the exact causes of death. The British Bases report that "after the autopsy, the cause of death will require further tests to be determined." So far, no official report has been issued, while the authorities are avoiding drawing conclusions before the investigation of the case is complete.
The father and stepmother of the two unfortunate children are being held in custody to facilitate investigations into a case being examined as possible negligence.
