When SigmaLive asked the mayor Georgios Tassos to comment on the incident and the potato, he spoke of "well-wishers" who rushed to make negative comments. He explained that this is a dummy potato, a trademark of the community. He even likened the potato, later Big Potato, to other products that adorn the entrances of European cities.
The potato, according to the common leader, is the "spounta" and not that of the "avlatzia" that the consumer buys from the supermarkets and fruit shops.
The mayor explained that this is an unfinished project and the goal is for the "spounta" to reach 4 meters. A space will be made around the potato where the visitor can be photographed. Speaking to Sigmalive, Mr. Tasou mentioned the tourist value of the project, which will make the village of Xylofagou a pole of attraction for visitors who want to be photographed with Big Potato.
