Andreas Kota, 25, who lost his life in the early hours of the morning in a road accident in Xylofagou, did not wear a protective helmet when he collided with his large-capacity motorcycle in a garbage truck.
In his statements, Andreas Konstantinou, spokesman for the Famagusta Police Department, said that "Andreas Kota, 02.45 years old from Xylofagou, died in a road collision that took place around 25 this morning in Xylofagou. The victim was riding his large-capacity motorcycle on Michali Vrachimi Street in Xylofagou, in the direction of the Ayia Napa-Rizoelia highway ".
He added that "under the circumstances under investigation, he collided with a garbage truck driven by a 45-year-old man from Larnaca. "From the collision, the victim was thrown from his motorcycle, resulting in fatal injuries, while the motorcycle was completely destroyed due to a fire that broke out immediately after the collision".
According to Mr. Konstantinou, "the victim did not wear a protective helmet while the driver of the garbage truck was tested for alcohol with zero indication. The causes of the fatal accident are being investigated by the Famagusta Traffic Police ".
Answering a relevant question, the spokesman of ADE Famagusta said that "the Police immediately visited the scene, have done all the examinations that had to be done and have collected all the necessary data and evidence and will be done all the necessary examinations that correspond to such cases ".
Around 11, the police arrested the driver of the garbage truck. He is expected to be questioned and released to appear before a court at a later stage.
