Our goal is the continuous upgrading of public hospitals in Cyprus, said Health Minister Neofytos Charalambides on Tuesday, while expressing support and gratitude to health workers "who with dedication offer our fellow citizens the precious good of health every day."
In statements during his visit to the Famagusta General Hospital in Paralimni, the Minister said that the visit is part of a program of visits to all hospitals in Cyprus. "The aim of these visits is to personally ascertain the situation prevailing in all hospitals and first of all in all public hospitals in terms of infrastructure, medical equipment and of course the adequacy of the staff, doctors, nurses and other personnel," he said.
Our goal, he continued, "is the continuous upgrading of public hospitals in Cyprus at all levels. I am here today expressing our support and gratitude to the health workers, doctors, nurses and paramedical staff who, with dedication, offer our fellow citizens the precious gift of health every day."
As the Minister said, "I am here to listen to them and to hear issues that may be troubling them, issues that we should take decisions to resolve immediately."
Asked about the perennial problem at the Famagusta General Hospital regarding understaffing, the Minister replied that "my goal is to listen to these issues and evaluate all the data. Within the framework of a sustainable health system, there must obviously be adequacy in the provision of quality health services and for this to occur, there must be adequate staffing."
