The Commission demands a 15% reduction in salaries in Greece

15% reduction of salaries in Greece in the two years 2012-2014 in order to restore its competitiveness, the requested report of the Commission that will be presented in the European Parliament by Manuel Barroso…

A document held by the Wall Street Journal estimates that in order to restore competitiveness in Greece, it becomes necessary to continue the policy of internal devaluation.

The report also notes that more than half of the 20 billion euros that our country is entitled to from the EU Structural Funds remain untapped and could be used for investments in the development of transport networks, tourism and the improvement of public administration.

Among the obstacles the Commission considers the new government that will emerge from the elections will be the additional spending cuts, the implementation of the arrangements voted in the labor market and the presentation of a "timetable for its reform". national collective bargaining agreement for the wage setting system by the end of July 2012 ”.

The report, presented by the Commission as a package of measures for development, underlines that the troika believes that it will not need a new aid program for Greece, other than the one recently adopted, and calls on the new government after the elections to implement as agreed.

It is also pointed out that additional measures must be taken for 2013 and 2014, in order to reduce the public debt to 117% of GDP by 2020.

"If the Greeks and the institutions believe in the prerequisite actions recognized by the Commission, we will be able to restore Greece and make a substantial difference in the lives of its citizens," the report said.

Eradicate the ills of corruption and bureaucracy

Noting that the European Commission is calling on Greece to reduce private sector wages by 15%, the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung notes that the country must implement the agreed reforms and impose even more restrictions.

The report points out that the Commission wants to help small and medium-sized enterprises in the future and stresses that in order to strengthen the country's competitiveness, the following "troubles" must be eradicated: corruption, delays in judicial decisions and the bureaucracy they cause serious damage to small and medium-sized enterprises.

The Commission, according to the publication, pays special attention to the energy sector for which the Minister of Environment, George Papaconstantinou, had recently focused on the "Sun" program, which, as the Minister pointed out, will create 60.000 new jobs and bring revenue. EUR 15 billion.
