Ayia Napa hotels are built on forest land and owe rents of € 1,7 million.

Four hotels built on forest land in the free area of ​​Famagusta owe arrears to the Department of Forests for a total of approximately € 1,7 million.

According to a written briefing received by the Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, Nikos Kougialis, these are the following hotel units:

1. Done Investments ltd: Debts for arrears rent amount to € 1.165.328 and the case is before Justice. As pointed out in the note Kougialis, because the first 33 years of the contract expires on 15/1/2015 and the company with a letter wishes to renew it, the Department of Forests with a letter of the day. 12/9/2014 set as a condition the repayment of the due overdue amount.

2. Florida Hotel: Because the company in question was unable to pay the state arrears of rent amounting to € 535.877, arrangements were made by a Cabinet decision to pay the amount in 24 equal monthly installments until 29/10/2010. The company, however, did not comply with the agreement, as a result of which it still owes the amount of € 187.525 plus interest. Also, from 12/2/2011 the rent was revised and from € 47.464 the annual rent was set at € 64.595. The company does not accept it and pays the previous rent. A lawsuit was filed on 12/2/2013. The company owes a total of € 245.832.

3. Ayia Napa Nissi Developments: The annual rent is paid normally. However, there was a difference of € 233.438 from 2003, as the company calculated the rent based on 6% instead of 12% on its gross receipts. A lawsuit was filed on 21/9/2011.

4. Napa Mermaid Hotels & Suites: The annual rent was revised from 20/1/2012 and set from € 50.033 to € 70.880. The hotel unit has not accepted the new rent and is paying the previous one. As a result, the arrears rents amount to € 62.538. The matter is under arbitration.
