19-year-old George Nalbantis from Nicosia lost his life on Sunday morning in the sea area of ​​Agioi Anargyroi in Cape Greco when he could not face the waves of the wild at that time of turmoil that prevailed in the area.

He had gone to the area with his friends, two girls and a boy and around 8:30 in the morning he fell into the sea alone despite the urgings of his friends not to do it because the sea was not good.

When his friends found out that something was wrong, they notified the Police.

Around 10:45 he was located by a private lifeguard at a depth of 18 meters, he was taken to the police station where despite the persistent efforts of the police he did not return to be transported ashore and by ambulance to the Famagusta Hospital where the on-duty doctors found

An announcement from the Ministry of Defense stated that at 08:46 this morning, the Larnaca KSED received information from the Limassol Port and Maritime Police operations center that a man was in danger in the sea area of ​​Kavo Greko, near Agios Anargyros.

It is added that KSED immediately activated the National Special Rescue Search Plan "NEARCHOS" by sending a boat of the Port and Naval Police of Paralimni with rescuers and divers as well as a helicopter of the Air Operations Unit (MAEP) of the Police.

After searches of the air rescue means under adverse weather conditions, the missing man was found dead and pulled from the bottom at 10:35 with the participation of volunteer divers.

The unfortunate man was first transported to the Paralimni Fishing Shelter and then by ambulance to the Famagusta General Hospital.

Police have undertaken the further investigation of the circumstances under which the incident took place. The legal autopsy on the body will take place next Tuesday.
