Imprisonment of a 25-year-old man from Frenaros for child sexual abuse

The Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca / Famagusta today sentenced a 25-year-old man to XNUMX years in prison by Frenaros, after he was found guilty after his own admission to the charges of child sexual abuse and corruption of a young woman aged thirteen to seventeen.

The offenses against the 13-year-old victim were committed in August 2015.

According to the facts of the case, the accused and the 13-year-old, who was in the 2015nd grade of High School, started electronic communication and in August XNUMX they arranged to meet.

On the morning of that day, the 25-year-old received the 13-year-old in his car and after transporting her to the bedroom of his house, he began to caress her and kiss her on various parts of her body, while completing the sexual act with her.

The 25-year-old then transported the 13-year-old to her home, but a man saw the young woman in the 25-year-old's car and alerted her father. Two days later, the case was reported to the Famagusta Police Department and was followed by an examination by the 13-year-old by a medical examiner.

The accused was arrested by the Police and initially in his testimony he denied guilt, but then he confessed to admitting guilt.

Defendant's lawyer, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the court that he was on a white criminal record with mental health problems that made him unable to work, the father of two minor children and came from a low-income family.

The Criminal Court ruled that the offenses of sexual abuse of a child are classified by the Law as crimes and carries a sentence of imprisonment not exceeding 20 years, while the offenses of corruption of a young woman aged 13 to 17, the maximum penalty provided by Law is 3 years in prison.

The Criminal Court took into account as mitigating factors the 25-year-old's white criminal record, his lack of violence, his psychological problems, his personal and family circumstances, the fact that the 13-year-old's father withdrew the family's complaint against him and his non-continuation. the criminal prosecution against him and the admission of the offenses.

Finally, the Criminal Court of Larnaca / Famagusta sentenced the 25-year-old to 2 and a half years in prison on charges of child sexual abuse and one year on charges of corruption of a young woman between the ages of thirteen and seventeen. The two sentences are met.

The Criminal Court rejected the request of the 25-year-old's defense counsel to suspend the prison sentence, as he explained in his decision that the seriousness of the facts of the case is such that it does not justify the exercise of the discretion of the Court.
