A total of 272 woodpeckers and 32 small wild birds were found by the Police in the possession of a 74-year-old man from Deryneia in his fenced orchard in Avgorou.
According to the Police, around 5 am today, members of the MMAD Poaching Squad, searched with the written consent of its owner, a fenced orchard located in the area of Agios Trikkas, in the community of Avgorou in the free area of Famagusta.
The field is owned by a 74-year-old man from Deryneia and during the search a total of 272 woodpeckers and 32 small wild birds were located and confiscated.
The 74-year-old was taken to the Xylofagou Police Station where, after being charged in writing, he was released to be summoned later.
The Xylofagou Police Station continues the examinations.
