The Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca - Famagusta on Wednesday imposed a six-year prison sentence on Stelios Nikolaou, 28, from Avgorou, after he was found guilty on his own charge, on charges of possession of a controlled drug, class B and other drugs for procurement. that is, 59,9173 grams of cannabis and 217 cannabis plants.

According to the facts of the case, on June 17, 2015, members of YKAN, with a court warrant, searched the residence where the 28-year-old lives with his father and mother in Avgorou, without, however, locating anything.

A bird cage was found behind the house, where a green dry cannabis plant weighing 2,3602 was found after an investigation. YKAN members also found 217 cannabis plants, 5-118 cm high, in a specially designed closed enclosure in pots, from which the resin had not been extracted.

A glass container containing 30,84 grams of cannabis, a metal container with 0,3340 grams of cannabis and two nylon bags containing 24,018 and 2,2340 grams of dry cannabis were also found.

YKAN members also identified a number of electrical appliances used to grow and grow plants and other materials, such as soil, water and cannabis seeds, as well as cannabis-containing cannabis weighing 0,1307 grams.

The total amount of dry cannabis plant material from which cannabis resin was not extracted is 59,173 grams.

Interrogated by the Police, Stelios Nikolaou admitted that all the findings were his.

In its decision, the Criminal Court stated that for the charges of cultivating and possessing a controlled Class B drug for the purpose of supplying it to other persons, it is life imprisonment.

He also said that severe and deterrent punishments should be imposed on drug cases because drugs are a scourge that affects a person's material and moral well-being and in many cases lead to misery and death.

In the counting of the sentence, the Criminal Court took into account the direct admission of Stelios Nikolaos to both the Police and the Court, the fact that he cultivated 217 cannabis plants in order to supply cannabis in a closed circle of his friends, who were already drug users, with a small in exchange for money and not for the purpose of trafficking, his personal and family circumstances and his white criminal record.

The Criminal Court finally sentenced the 28-year-old to six years in prison for possession of a Class B controlled drug for the purpose of supplying other persons and a six-year prison sentence for cannabis cultivation.

The Criminal Court also sentenced him to six months in prison for drug possession and use of cannabis resin. Penalties are met.
