a 5417 NewsThe Government is trapped in a building rental contract, for millions of euros, although the property is no longer used by the Department of Urban Planning. Wrong planning threatens to cost public funds dearly.

An amount that may reach two million euros is called on the state to literally fly in the air, in the midst of economic crisis.

Cause the bad planning and the strange in many places decisions for the relocation of the Department of Urban Planning, in 2009.

ANT1 TV station reveals the signed contract which shows that:

For the relocation of the Department of Urban Planning from the buildings of the old Secretariat, a 2009-year contract was signed in the summer of 5 for the rental of an 11-storey building on Diagorou Street for the amount of € 3.761.359. And this despite the fact that at the same time work began on the construction of a privately owned building on Kinyra Street with a time horizon of completion of two and a half years.

Last January, the Department relocated to its privately owned buildings, while the rental contract was pending for another two and a half years.
In fact, for the last two years, the contract provides for a rent increase of 7%.
Attempts were made to relocate another government department to the building, but failed.
The last failed attempt was last August to house the Family Court and the Labor Dispute Tribunal, which face building problems.

As a result, the owner of the building, in a letter, which is also revealed by ANTENNA, demands full repayment of interest, since the state has since last December proceeded to a stop payment of rent:

Despite our repeated harassment, you are unreasonably late and / or negligent in paying the due rents. I take this opportunity to express my disappointment with the suspension of payments to date and wish the immediate and positive outcome of this huge setback.

The Auditor General had repeatedly indicated that the rent of the building you see was unjustifiably increased by 27% compared to the reasonable rental price.

It should be noted that a similar case is identified with a building that is rented by the state for hundreds of thousands of euros in Limassol, which is no longer used.
