YKAN men arrested a 37-year-old man in Frenaros yesterday afternoon in connection with a drug trafficking case, who was then released pending analysis by the State Chemist.
According to the Police, the men of YKAN yesterday around 4.30 in the afternoon stopped a car driven by a 37-year-old man from Vrysoules for an investigation.
The driver, in his attempt to avoid the police control, turned his back and while driving at speed he covered a distance of 500 meters to finally hit the car on a tree and stop. The 37-year-old got out of the vehicle and tried to escape by running, to be stopped and arrested by the police for a self-inflicted crime.
During the search of the vehicle, a slightly smoked handmade cannabis cigarette mixed with industrial tobacco was found in the ashtray.
The 37-year-old was slightly injured while trying to escape and was transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Famagusta, where after receiving first aid he was transported to the police station.
The defendant made a written statement in which he admitted to committing drug-related offenses, negligent driving and reckless and negligent acts.
The 37-year-old was released late last night, without currently being charged in writing pending the results of the analyzes by the State Chemist.
