The first step was taken yesterday at the meeting of the Executive Office with the discussion and determination of the main milestones of the course towards the electoral contest in May, both at party and state level.
The Politburo will approve a proposal for cooperation with political groups and personalities in the run-up to the elections. The electoral collaborations are in the targets of the alarming president who lifts the burden of the processes. At the same time, it will determine the number of Aristide candidates that will be selected by Averof Neophytou for the ballot.
For party candidates running for the ballot, there will be a regular application process. Next Tuesday, the process of registering members in the party register who will have the right to vote in the intra-party procedures for the preparation of the party ballot paper will be completed. The alarm members, who exceed 40 thousand, will be invited to provincial election assemblies to select the party candidates who will be included in the ballot plus one. The final word is with the Politburo, which usually leaves the runner-up out of the ballot.
Election assemblies are scheduled for Sunday, April 3 in all provinces. The schedule will be observed as approved by the DISY statutory conference, for the preparation of the ballot 45 days before the parliamentary elections. The vote will be a secret ballot and will essentially be a general rehearsal of how the hard-core party will move. How many alarmists will eventually bother to exercise their right to vote twice and what will be their choices.
As for the state procedures, the election campaign officially starts on February 22, when the expenses of each of the candidates are counted in their expenses, for which they will have to officially submit an account. According to the new legislation, the pre-election expenses amount to 30 thousand euros for each of the candidates. On April 6, the Politburo of DISY will have the last word on the party candidates. The candidates who will prevail in the intra-party process plus one per constituency will come close to him. The process is a bit complicated, as the positions for the Aristideans will be removed, the quotas for young people and women will be taken into account and the final training will take place.
From the current deputies of DISY, everyone is interested in re-election. The only minister who still plays for candidacy is Defense Minister Christoforos Fokaidis in the Famagusta constituency. Former MEP Andreas Pitsillidis will also claim a place on the ballot. Beyond that, a number of young executives will be tested both in the intra-party process and those who prevail in the state one. In Nicosia, Xenia Konstantinou, Savia Orfanidou, Michalis Sophocleous, Dimitris Dimitriou, Onoufrios Koulas in Famagusta, the Volunteer Commissioner Giannakis Giannakis in Larnaca, Ioanna Sygkrasiti in Limassol, in Limassol.
