Proposal - "bomb" by Averoff for electoral measure at 5%

The ups and downs in the party scene are expected to lead to a proposal by the leader of the Democratic Alarm to increase the electoral measure for entering Parliament to 5%. Averof Neophytou, according to information, intends to submit his proposal before the Parliament in the plenary session on October 29 - he will be absent from tomorrow's Plenary due to a trip abroad.

The proposal will be submitted and "whoever wants to come back to me", said an alarming official.

Pindarou's position is clear regarding the electoral law: That the percentage can not remain in the simple proportional, 1,8%, when in most countries of the European Union the electoral percentage is around 5%. The ruling party argues that for reasons of Parliament functionality, a change in the electoral law is required. With the current electoral system, with 4 thousand votes, a political formation can ensure representation in Parliament.

The change of the electoral measure has plagued the parliamentary parties in recent years without ever being able to present a specific proposal in the Plenary Session of the Parliament. With his move, Averof Neophytou essentially throws the ball on the field of the other political forces that will be called upon to take a bold stance on the whole issue.

However, there is an informal agreement between the parties not to make changes to the electoral legislation at a time close to the electoral process. It will be interesting to see how the parties will react to the proposal and what their final positions will be.

The proposal for the electoral measure will be detached from other proposals that the Democratic Alarm has occasionally put on the table, such as electronic voting, the abolition of the ballot paper, and even horizontal voting.
