Dr. Giannaki stated that following the recommendations of the Council of Europe in 2003 regarding population controls, the Ministry of Health developed, with the help of Europa Donna Cyprus, a pilot population control program for breast cancer in women aged 50-69 , which originally covered the province of Nicosia.

Gradually, the program based on the population archive was expanded nationwide and today it has been upgraded both administratively and technologically, with its coordination now being done centrally by a cross-sectoral team coordinated by the Ministry of Health, while additional computerization program and digital mammograms have been introduced. technology.

The Government, added Ms. Giannaki, with a relevant Decision of the Council of Ministers approved the gradual upgrade and conversion of the breast unit of the Nicosia General Hospital into a specialized Breast Center. The Ad hoc Committee noted that it was set up, undertook and has submitted a specific detailed proposal for the establishment of the Center, which records the needs for additional staff and equipment, with relevant costing and implementation schedule.

The aim is the interdisciplinary approach, based on the European guidelines, by a team of health professionals that will include a specialized surgeon, oncologist, radiologist, histopathologist, plastic surgeon, psychologist and nurse. Finally, Dr. Giannaki congratulated Europa Donna Cyprus for its great contribution and described her work as invaluable.
