As Lakis Avraamidis, director of the Famagusta Tourism Development and Promotion Company, told KYPE, "Holiday packages were still being booked from other markets."

However, he continued, "gradually things improved for both Cyprus and the free region of Famagusta, with the result that the occupancy of hotels in the province is at a high level, having reached 95 and even 100%. "Fortunately, we are in a period where we should be well and we are well, because it would be catastrophic if the tourism industry had a problem from the beginning of August."

Answering a relevant question, Mr. Avraamidis said that "again this year there is the phenomenon of last minute holiday bookings by both Cypriots and foreign visitors. "Cypriots are interested, but they are waiting at the last minute to book a vacation, while foreigners are used to last minute shopping as they know that the airlines will offer special offers".

We expect "that towards the end of August there will be a reduction in tourist arrivals, which however we know is temporary due to the tactics of visitors waiting to book for holidays at the last minute".

Asked about the countries from which tourism in Cyprus comes this year, he replied that "the positive thing is that the reduction from the Russian market was much smaller than we expected, ie while there was talk of a 30, 40 and even 50% reduction, finally by the end of July the reduction was around 13 -15%. "Other markets that have seen an increase in tourist arrivals are Britain and Germany, while the Nordic countries have seen a slight decline."

Regarding Israel and the countries of the Arabian Gulf and the Middle East, Lakis Avraamidis said that "Israel is doing very well in tourist arrivals, while in recent years there has been a significant increase in the tourism market from the Arab Gulf countries. "There is a steady but not impressive increase in the arrivals of visitors from the Arab Gulf countries, while due to the increase in flights from these countries to Cyprus, we believe that this upward trend will continue in the coming months."

What we want, he continued, "is the arrival of tourists from the United Arab Emirates and the Arabian Gulf to continue during the autumn months, ie September, October and November, given that due to the still high temperatures in these months, "People are looking for cooler places."

In another question, Mr. Avraamidis said that "at this time we are satisfied with the fullness of the hotels in the free area of Famagusta. We hope that due to the descent of Cypriot visitors during August, culminating in the XNUMXth of August, the market outside the hotels, ie restaurants, cafes and various shops, will also move ".

Regarding the money spent by tourists, the President of the Company said that "people make their holidays based on a certain amount available. However, according to the latest statistics, it is clear that the purchasing power, at least of Russian visitors internationally, has decreased by 2015% in 37, in the use of credit cards ".

Lakis Avraamidis called on the Police in Ayia Napa to take drastic measures in the fight against illegal motorcycles, beach and street parties and pub crawls, because they are a scourge for tourism and only cause damage, not only in Ayia Napa but in general in the free area of Famagusta ".

As a Famagusta Tourism Development and Promotion Company, he concluded, "we support the actions of the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Giannis Karousos, to combat the specific events and actions".
