Twinning of the Municipality of Sotira with the city of Russia and the inauguration of a church in St. Petersburg

In St. Petersburg, the second largest city and cultural capital of Russia, was present from 23-26 October 2015, the Mayor Sotiras, Mr. George Takkas and the Chairman of the Committee on Culture and Municipal Councilor, Mr. Florentia Savva, as representatives of the Municipality of Sotiras during the first Divine Liturgy in the newly built Greek sanctuary which has been dedicated in honor of the Holy Myrrh Bearers together with the Most Venerable Metropolitan of Constantia Mr. Vassilios at the invitation of the Russian official Mr. Vitali Milonov.

During their visit to St. Petersburg, the representatives of the Municipality of Sotiras had the opportunity to visit the city of Kokkinos Potamos in St. Petersburg, during which they proceeded with the completion of the twinning with the specific Municipality and the organization of cultural events in the two Municipalities.

Inauguration of the Church of Agios Myroforos

For the inauguration of the church of the Holy Myrrh Bearers, the Most Venerable Metropolitan of Constantia-Famagusta was accompanied by the pastor of the Russian-speaking parish of the Diocese, Archpriest Alexei Ausjevic, and the Deacon Epiphanius Papantoniou.

This church was built with the actions of the Cyprus-Russian Association of Culture, Entrepreneurship and Orthodoxy and with the great contribution of Mr. Milonov, who inspired this great work.

On the morning of Sunday, October 25, 2015, the procession of the Blessing was performed and then the Hierarchical Minister who was presided over by the Most Reverend Bishop Tsarskoye Selo Mr. Markellos, with the participation of the Most Venerable, clergy of the region, Archpriest Alexios.

Also present were Larnaca MP and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Culture Mr. George Tasos representing the Cypriot Parliament, Mayors Sotiras Mr. George Ttakas and Deryneia Mr. Andros Karagiannis as representatives of the local government of the Free of the Culture Committee and municipal councilor of the Municipality of Sotiras and Mr. Marios Fotiou, member of the Cyprus-Russian Association.

Before the end of the Divine Liturgy, short greetings were given by both Hierarchs and by the representatives of the various bodies.

As a donation to the new church, 3 portable icons of Christ, the Virgin of Ayia Napa and the Archangels Michael and Gabriel were made and transported to St. Petersburg, which are a donation of the Holy Metropolis of Constantia and the municipalities of Sotira, Ayia Napa and our community council. .
