AMG GT: The new "hot" sports car of Mercedes-Benz

With a 4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine up to 510 hp, aluminum body and explosive performance (0-100 at 3,8 dl, final 310 km / h), the new AMG GT will be on display at Mercedes-Benz in April.

Mercedes-Benz, after a long wait and an ongoing marketing game, yesterday officially presented the AMG GT, the 2nd high-performance sports car that AMG developed on its behalf, after SLS.

As we already know, the AMG GT is powered by a 4-liter V8 engine producing 462 or 510 hp at 6.250 rpm, while the maximum torque of 650 Nm is achieved at 1.750-4.750 rpm. The powerful version of the twin-turbo set equips the GT S version, which achieves 0-100 km / h at 3,8 dl, while it has a top speed of 310 km / h.

The new German torment will start its commercial "career" in April, with the prices of the GT version starting in Germany from 115.430 euros, with the GT S version costing 134.350 euros. In Greece, we will see, let the luxury tax be good…

The people of Mercedes claim that the body of the AMG GT is the lightest in its class, as the frame is made of 90% aluminum. Its weight, then, is only 1.540 kg, which allows the version of 462 hp to have a consumption of 9,3 l / 100 km and CO2 emissions of 216 g / km.

The engine is of Euro 6 specifications and its weight (without liquids) is 209 kg. It benefits from a range of components such as light pistons and dual camshafts, while the aluminum cylinder head has a zirconium coating for optimal flow and thermal conductivity. The surfaces of the cylinders have been treated with nanotechnology, in order to reduce friction, while they are of dry type technology (there is no crankcase).

By moving the center of gravity closer to the ground and achieving an almost ideal "weighing", Mercedes engineers enhance the driving characteristics of the AMG GT, which features a dual-clutch automatic transmission with 7 gears and aluminum suspension with double wishbones.

AMG is currently signing 21 Mercedes-Benz models, from the A-Class to the S-Class flagship, with sales doubling in the last 5 years (in 2013 it sold 32.200 vehicles) .

AMG boss Matias Moers said the GT would be placed under the SLS, which stopped production two months ago, with no plans for a successor model at the moment. The AMG GT will be built in Sindelfingen, Germany, next to the Mercedes S-Class. GT is part of Daimler's plan to introduce 12 completely new models by 2020, in order to regain what it lost in 2005 from BMW, which is no more than the 1st place in the world in the luxury car industry.
