As the mayor of Ayia Napa stated in KYPE, "the noise, the noise pollution, the annoyances of the inhabitants, the parties of various kinds and in any place, which take place with the participation of hundreds of tourists, who consume unlimited and questionable quality alcohol, who drink them business, will mean the end of Ayia Napa as a tourist destination. "Tourists who participate in various events and parties organized by various experts, enter the courtyards of the houses, disturb people while breaking what they find in front of them."

He added that "it seems that travel agencies and individuals are closing the groups of travelers, even with ads on the Internet, with the commitment to blindly follow the entertainment program they offer. Thus, they offer to the hundreds of tourists, who arrive in Cyprus with cheap vacation packages, large quantities and alcoholic beverages of dubious quality and then let them circulate on the streets of Ayia Napa ", creating problems.

According to G. Karousos, "the behavior of these tourists destroys and nullifies the efforts we have been making for years to upgrade the tourist product, while at the same time they contribute the most to the closure of tourist businesses, since, with their actions they force them right and legitimate entrepreneurs in closing ".

"How did we get from cosmopolitanism to savory?"

The mayor of Ayia Napa wondered how since 2000, when we had one of the best quality nightlife and was the trademark of cosmopolitan life in the world, we have reached today's "savoura".

He explained that "instead of renting a club, a businessman can gather tourists in a bar crawl, which not only has no costs, such as a restaurant or a shop, but also does not have the necessary operating and security licenses. In this way, they have only net income, while when the competent bodies go to the area for the necessary controls, the only things that are not controlled are this kind of premises ".

G. Karousos called on "everyone, including the Municipal Council, to reflect and assume their responsibilities. We have taken various measures but unfortunately we have not succeeded since some of these premises are controlled and others are not ".

Asked who can provide a solution to these problems, he replied "all the competent bodies. The Police should check if these premises have the necessary licenses to sell alcohol, the Health Services to see if they meet the hygiene standards, the VAT and Tax services to be informed if they pay the necessary taxes, if the safety regulations are observed and in general all those involved with tourism ".

It should be concluded "we should all do our best so that the area of the free area of Famagusta and Ayia Napa in general to get again the good name it had as a tourist destination."
