Police are concerned about the escalation of crime

The escalation of the crime that has been observed lately, but especially the criminal action against the head of the Limassol Traffic Police, Michalis Katsounotou, have caused concern to the Police…

The Minister of Justice, and Public Order, Loukas Loukas, made it clear that there is information about other members of the Police, who seem to be in the crosshairs of criminal elements.

He stressed that measures are being taken.

The minister's statements were made after a meeting of the Crime Council.

The National Action Plan 2012-2017, which today occupied a meeting of the Crime Council, includes two hundred and twenty actions.

In statements after the session, the Minister of Justice stated that this is divided into three areas, the prevention and reduction of criminals, the reduction of recidivism involving ex-convicts, and the reduction of opportunities for the commission of crimes, an issue that concerns exclusively Police.

He said that the Action Plan involves many Ministries, many services and communities, such as the Union of Municipalities and we have seen the definition of actions which are 221 actions.

He said that the National Action Plan will be presented before the Ministerial Committee, which consists of the ministers responsible for the services involved in the implementation of the National Plan and then will be presented to the Council of Ministers for approval.

"It is a plan that covers the whole spectrum and almost all services of the state," he said, such as the Mental Health Services, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Justice, the Police, the "Penitentiary institution", said Mr. Loukas.

"Our goal with this project is to shape and help the characters of young people, children, so that when they grow up they have a better foundation so that we can help them deal with the real problems they have, whether they are drugs or are juvenile delinquency, crime, serious crime, school violence. "Our goal is to help young people deal more effectively with the modern problems that plague our society," he said.

Answering a question, he noted that the actions included in the plan start with the children of the kindergarten. "We start with caring for children, first of all and this is where the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance is involved."

He said that there are other employment services for school-age children, which include non-voluntary organizations and volunteering and the Ministry of Labor, in order to give the right meaning to children on how to shape their character, what they mean. how they see something that is bad but some, not intentionally, try to present an image that is bad for children.

"So we start from a very young age, we go to elementary school, high school, high school to help shape the character of children in terms of crime. What should the child consider right and what should he consider wrong. "The media are also involved in this program and will be notified accordingly," he said.

So, he continued, "it is a global and a program that covers all aspects. It does not concern today's crime, in which we have had two murders in the last three months. That is why it is a long-term six-year program, which will bear fruit during the next 20 years ".

Asked about the previous five-year Action Plan, he said that several actions were taken, "an evaluation had been done, we saw the indications and we have decided how to control these actions". He said that these actions include lectures, seminars, creation of spaces, grants, etc.
