The most expensive beaches in Ayia Napa

a 35 News, Nea Famagusta, Protaras
The beaches are flooded with people every day and especially on weekends throughout Cyprus. Many even prefer organized beaches, while in many areas there are establishments of various types such as kiosks, small supermarkets, neighborhood and beach cafes. In all regions the prices are about the same and compared to last year there are no noticeable fluctuations either up or down.

So those who want to enjoy their dips in the sea, and at the same time have easy access to a cool drink, can do so without worrying too much which area they will choose, since all the basic types of bathers are offered at the same prices.

Diving in the sea is not prohibitive, and those families who do not have their own umbrellas and sunbeds, and do not take ice cubes with them, should be aware that the prices of services and products are generally affordable.

So a family can rent for the whole day on the organized beaches two sunbeds and an umbrella paying € 7,50. In case he wants to quench his thirst with a soft drink, it is offered in a tin of 330 ml for € 1, while the 50 ml water bottle is sold at 500 cents. Ready-made coffees are offered for around € 1,50 each, as is beer.

Consumers, however, should be very careful and if they have the opportunity to study the price observatory of the Ministry of Commerce, they will not be pressed by experts who sell certain products with a hat of 500%! That is, the maximum value from the minimum is presented five times from one estate to another within the same province.

Most of the profiteering phenomena are observed on the beaches of Limassol where in 13 total products the difference from the maximum to the minimum price is over 100%. In other words, such cases of an increase of more than 100% in the same product in the same province are presented 11 times in Protaras and 8 times in Larnaca.

On the contrary, on the beaches of Ayia Napa, the phenomenon that the product is more than 100% more expensive is presented once and on the beaches of Paphos three times.

However, those who forgot to get their sunscreen and choose to buy it from the beach should be careful, since there are points of sale where there is a scandal. The same sunscreen can be purchased by the holidaymaker with a variation of up to 53% in Larnaca, with 49% in Paphos, with an increase of 20% in Limassol, 33% in Ayia Napa and 16% above in Protaras.

Profiteering is not avoided, since in many cases the logic of easy profit works on the part of businessmen, at the expense of visitors, locals and foreigners.

It is pointed out that in the context of monitoring the operation of the retail market and consumer information, the Competition and Consumer Protection Service of the Ministry of Commerce, published a Observatory of Prices of Tourist Coastal Areas dated 23-24/7/2015, which includes retail selling prices of basic consumer products and beach services in tourist coastal areas.

The research was conducted in establishments of various types such as kiosks, small supermarkets, neighborhood and beach cafes (snack bars) as well as in organized beaches.

The Price Observatory concerns 123 Coastal Premises and 53 beach service areas in the provinces of Limassol, Paphos, Larnaca and Free Famagusta (Protaras and Ayia Napa areas) and includes 40 basic consumer products and 2 beach services. It is noted that the products are registered under their own brand name. The research concerns Fresh Milk, Bread, Soft Drinks / Juices / Coffee & Tea, Bottled Water, Beers, Ice Cream, Sunscreen and Beach Services.
