Should the new stadium of the Municipality of Sotira be built or not?

By Zannettos Koumasis

Unemployment across Europe is very high. In Cyprus things are better, but we are also going from bad to worse. What do we do as a local government to reduce the problem as much as possible?…

To end the crisis, small and medium-sized enterprises must be supported and development projects must be carried out.
In our town hall, perhaps the prevailing philosophy is that there will be no works because there is no money. The money is in the coffers of the state and the European Union. The CMO approved for the construction of the new stadium more than 1 million euros, and 300 thousand for the creation of a sports center. The plans are ready and the only thing left is the announcement of offers. The municipal council can only request bids from Sotira's contractors. In the terms of the offer to request the employment only of our citizens. This is also done in the construction of the new warehouse of SPE Paralimni.

Some say that it does not need to become the new stadium because we only have one team and we do not need it. The academies of U10, U13, U17 and the first team need the stadium to be able to develop as teams. The motivation for the use of a new stadium and sports center by the young people will push them more in their involvement in sports. The old stadium can be used as an auxiliary.

Do not postpone projects involving young people, nor jobs for young people.

Υ.Γ. The 2 million euros that some claim that the stadium will cost is when the canopy of the stands is done. This can be done in a second phase.
