All plans for the reform of local self-government with the clustering of municipalities and communities are overturned. Consequently, the intention of DISY to propose postponement of the municipal elections of December for a period of three years is overturned.
The Parliamentary Committee on Internal Affairs unanimously decided to postpone the debate and refer the issue to the new parliamentary term.
The chairman of the Committee, Giannos Lamaris, stated that only yesterday afternoon the three final bills were submitted to the Parliament and there is no time for their discussion and voting. Already, he said, from the first reading, gaps and omissions were identified, which should be filled.
Members of the Committee on the Interior have stated that the proposal to postpone the municipal elections until 2019 cannot proceed.
