End to the Greek series…

An end to the stagnation and frustration created around the world by political developments in Greece was given by the final decision of the board of directors… The final decision gives Loukas Papademos the Prime Minister and the responsibility to form the new government that will aim to implement the agreed at the Eurozone Summit on 26 October 2011. The meeting reaffirmed the framework of principles set out at the meetings of the political leaders present at the meeting on 6 November 2011.
It was agreed that the task of the new government is to implement the decisions of the Eurozone Summit on 26 October 2011, and to implement the economic policy associated with these decisions. The President of the Republic, on a proposal from the political leaders who attended the meeting, gave order to form a government, to Loukas Papadimos.
The inauguration of the new government will take place tomorrow at 2 noon.

The first statements of the new Prime Minister

"The course will be difficult. Greece is at a critical crossroads but I am convinced that the problems can be solved, at a lower cost if there is unity and consensus. That is why it is particularly important to form a government with broader cooperation to solve problems in the best possible way. A government that has a very important and specific task to perform. " The goals of the new government as they were formulated in the announcement of the Presidency of the Republic were set in his first statement by the caretaker Prime Minister of Greece, Loukas Papadimos, who also asked for unity, conciliation and consensus for the new government. Mr. Papadimos characterized the euro as a guarantee of monetary stability and economic prosperity, as he said.

As characteristically noted in the statement of the outgoing Presidential Palace, Mr. Papadimos: "I accepted the order of the President of the Republic, following a proposal by the political leaders to form a government of wider cooperation, because I believe that we must all contribute to dealing with the crisis and recovery of the Greek economy. I would first like to thank the President of the Republic and the political leaders for the trust in my person. The price is high and the responsibility I take on is greater. "I am not a politician, but I have dedicated most of my professional life to pursuing economic policy, both in Greece and in Europe."

The caretaker Prime Minister stressed that "the Greek economy is still facing huge problems, despite the enormous efforts that have been made for fiscal consolidation and improving competitiveness", adding that "Greece is at a critical crossroads". Referring to the choices that will be made in terms of its course and in terms of the policy that will be implemented, he said that "they will be crucial for the well-being of the Greek people. The path will not be easy, but I am convinced that the problems will be solved. And they will be resolved faster, less costly and more efficiently, if there is unity, understanding and prudence. If we all contribute to this difficult process, adjustment and recovery of the economy ". For this reason, as he said, "it is important to form a government of wider cooperation, in order to address these problems in the near future in the best possible way."

The caretaker Prime Minister described the new government as "transitional", saying it had a specific task to do. Its main task is to implement the agreements of the Summit of the leaders of the Eurozone, of October 26, 2011 as well as the implementation of the economic policy related to these decisions ". As he said, "I am convinced that the country's participation in the euro area is a guarantee of monetary stability. It is a factor of economic prosperity and the country's participation in the euro area, despite the difficulties faced, will facilitate the adjustment of the economy and its development. And we must all be optimistic about the end result as long as we are united and work together systematically and closely to achieve these goals. " Finally, Mr. Papadimos clarified that despite what was heard, "no conditions were set for any political leader", while he added that the exact time for elections has not been determined, but, as he said, there is a framework of principles, which was formulated in the previous meeting of political leaders and we remind you that it sets February 19, 2012 as a possible election date.
