The discussion of the proposals of the Ministry of Finance for targeting the student sponsorship and the child allowance, based on income criteria and assets, was completed by the Council of Ministers in a session on Friday afternoon. As the Minister of Finance Kiki Kazamias stated after the meeting, the obligation of the Government, through the state budget of 2012 submitted to the Parliament, is to reduce the social benefits, in general, by 200 million euros.
Mr. Kazamias said that by targeting the student sponsorship and the child allowance, a total of 100 million euros are saved (20 million euros from the targeting of the student sponsorship and 80 million euros from the targeting of the child allowance).
Mr. Kazamias stated that the student sponsorship will continue to be provided, as it is today, for families with two children and with a family income of up to 30.000 euros, while the child allowance will continue to be provided, as it is today, for families with an income of up to 39.000 euro.
