Within the next few months, the contracts are expected to be signed with the company, which will win the offer for the construction of the Ayia Napa marina and immediately after the laying of the foundation stone, the construction works will begin.

As stated by the Mayor Giannis Karousos, "the investment company M.M. Makronisos Marina Ltd, has informed the Municipality of Ayia Napa that the offers regarding the creation of the Ayia Napa marina have been opened. A total of 7 companies submitted bids for the implementation of the marina and among them there are Cypriot and international companies as well as joint ventures, which we consider as a very positive element ".

He added that "the company evaluates the offers received and is expected to sign the contract with the winning company in the coming months. Then the implementation of the Ayia Napa marina will begin, the largest project that has been created in recent years in the Republic of Cyprus, which just a few days ago came out of the memorandum ".

According to Mr. Karousos, "in the summer of 2016, the foundation stone is expected to be laid and the works for the marina to begin. "According to the schedules, the port works for the marina will take three years to complete and the other two more projects, ie by 2021 the Ayia Napa marina will be ready for use".

The Mayor of Ayia Napa also stated that "the information we have indicates that the investor has made significant improvements and upgrades to the project, which we will soon announce to our citizens. Upon its completion, the marina will be a jewel of the Mediterranean and not only, which we expect will bring benefits to the Republic of Cyprus beyond one billion euros ".

He added that "the location where the marina will be built has been defined after the church of Agia Thekla up to the area of ​​Makronisos and the cost of the project is estimated to amount to about 220 million euros."

The marina will include "villas, apartments, restaurants, bars, shops, cafes, boutiques and various shops.

The marina itself will be able to serve 600 boats from 10 to 60 meters long, while it will be able to provide supporting work, ie small repairs and repairs ".

It is estimated that the project will include commercial and residential developments with a total area of ​​approximately 30.000 square meters, administrative offices of 2.000 square meters and approximately 850 car parking spaces.

According to Mr. Karousos, "a square will be created, which will be suitable for holding events and various other cultural events.

"During the construction of the Ayia Napa marina, 800 jobs are expected to be created, with the majority of the employees consisting of residents of the area, while another 350 jobs will be created for its operation".
