The Mayor Mr. Giannis Karousos stated that "it is time to start planning for these issues, as our beaches are A and O, and the issue of their erosion as well as access is very serious".
"We must, we said, reduce erosion and improve our beaches, but also provide our visitors with security and easy access to them."
"Although the main way to solve the problem of erosion is through breakwaters, the Municipality of Ayia Napa after research believes that the desired result to solve the problem will be achieved after preparation and elaboration of studies with the main goal of mild interventions. That is, we can have the same and better result by using mild methods of dealing with coastal erosion instead of traditional hard structures ".
Mr. Dimitriadis confirmed to the Mayor that his ministry will contribute as much as possible to the solution of the problem by preparing the relevant studies.
The Mayor thanked the Honorable Minister for the Immediate Response, understanding for addressing the issue and hoped that the next major Government project will be tackling the erosion of Ayia Napa beaches.
