Arrest of tourists in Protaras

A couple of tourists from France spent the night in the detention facilities of the Larnaca Police Department as suspects in the case of possession and distribution of counterfeit banknotes.

According to the Police, a hotel manager in Paralimni complained that a hotel customer made two transactions, with a counterfeit € 20 banknote and one with a € 50 banknote, while he also tried to make a fourth transaction with a second € 50 banknote, which a hotel employee he realized that it was fake and returned it to him.

Men of TAE Famagusta arrested the 54-year-old customer from France at the hotel, while his 49-year-old partner, also from France, was found in his room.

During the search that followed, nine banknotes of € 50, 41 of € 20, 20 of € 10 and 17 of € 5 were found in their room, several of which bore the same serial number.

Later today, the couple of French tourists are expected to be brought before the District Court of Famagusta in order to request the issuance of a detention order against them in order to facilitate the police investigations.
