The bus that transports the people of the Center, presents serious technical problems every day, as a result of which their safety is endangered. They suffer too much and unfortunately due to financial difficulties, the Employment Center "Apostolos Pavlos" can not replace it.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors Mr. Adamos Kakouris states:
"We have to replace the big bus that we have since it repeatedly presents technical problems, as a result of which the safety of people with special abilities is endangered. In order to ensure a decent living and employment of the people of the Center and at the same time to avoid any unfavorable situations, we ask for your help.
A significant amount has been secured from the Radio Marathon and around 25.000 euros are left so that the Center can meet this need. However, due to economic circumstances, the Center is not able at this stage to secure a new safe bus that will serve the daily movement of its people. That is why we ask for your support. "
The Employment Center "Apostolos Pavlos" for people with special abilities was created by the Association of Parents and Friends of the Center and operates in Liopetri since 1989, on a voluntary-charitable basis in order to host, employ and educate people with mental and physical disabilities. difficulties.
This need was created by the gap that existed after the graduation of the people from the Special School "Apostolos Barnabas" that the Ministry of Education operates in Liopetri for the province of Famagusta, when they reached the age of 18 years. These people, having nowhere else to work, would wander aimlessly through their communities with all the consequences.
In "Apostolos Pavlos" people who did not attend the Special School are also accepted.
The students are provided with protection, care, training in the development of self-service and employment skills in the household, carpentry, basketry and the workshop of constructions and jewelry as well as in the bakery by qualified staff.
Since 1994, the Hospitality House "I ENTAXI" has been operating in Liopetri, where 5 people from the "Apostolos Pavlos" Center live, whose families are unable or find it difficult to offer them the appropriate care. Since September 2009, the second house in the community has been operating to accommodate another 5 people of the Center.
The Center currently serves 33 people over the age of 18, from 11 municipalities and communities.
The Center is managed by the Board of Directors of the Association of Parents and Friends under the control of the Welfare Department. It operates all year round with an annual budget of approximately € 310.000 and is based on voluntary offer and support. It is subsidized by the State by 40% and 10% is covered by boarding schools. The remaining 50% is covered by product sales, donations, contributions, events, and other activities.
