Ayia Napa: They set up a party stealing an ATM

The Famagusta District Court today issued a seven-day detention order against a 35-year-old man from Ukraine, to facilitate police investigations into investigated cases of theft, illegal processing of personal data, forgery and the circulation of a forged document.

According to the facts of the case, in the early hours of July 29, 2015, members of the Famagusta TAE stopped the 35-year-old, who was walking on foot, in Ayia Napa, following information provided by the JCC that some suspicious transactions were being made at ATMs in Agia. Napa.

Police officers in a physical search of the 35-year-old found the amount of 5,470 euros and four credit cards. With his consent, the Police proceeded to search the hotel room where he was staying with his roommate, a 32-year-old tourist from Egypt.

Inside the apartment were 29,400 euros in 50-euro banknotes, a laptop, a credit card encoder and ten cards, of which, after a police check, it was found that 7 were counterfeit, while the rest were blank.

According to the Police, it seems that the two men transferred on the credit cards personal data of people who are abroad. They then used the credit card encoder to pass the data to the cards, which they then used at ATMs in Ayia Napa, withdrawing money from various accounts.

The two men, who have been in custody since July 29, appeared before the Famagusta District Court today, which issued a detention order for the 35-year-old in the Central Prison until August 11. The court released the 32-year-old without accusing him.
