Cyprus letter of protest to the UN Secretary General

The Speaker of Parliament, Giannakis Omirou, in a letter to the Secretary General. complains that the statements and actions of Alexander Downer's Special Adviser clearly fall short of the terms of his mandate; 

Mr. Homer expresses the hope that the UN Secretary General will personally address this serious issue, as he characterizes it.

In his letter, Mr. Homer conveys to the Secretary General the unanimous resolution on Mr. Downer, which was adopted by the Cypriot Parliament last Thursday.

As is well known, in its resolution, the Cypriot Parliament calls for "the restoration of the objectivity and credibility of the institution of its special adviser to the UN Secretary General, in the interest of the parties involved and with a view to achieving a just and lasting solution to the Cyprus problem. on the basis of international law and of course the relevant UN resolutions ".

In his letter, Mr. Omirou notes the continuous interest of the Cypriot Parliament for the ongoing efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue, based on the relevant UN resolutions and with a view to preserving the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all Cypriots.
