According to the Police, between the hours of 16:55 and 17:25 yesterday afternoon, members of YKAN put a surveillance area in Deryneia, for which there was information that drugs were being bought and sold.
Three cars arrived at the scene while watching. The first vehicle was driven by a 21-year-old from Paralimni, the second was driven by a 21-year-old from Deryneia and in the back seat there was also a 20-year-old from Deryneia. The third car was driven by a 17-year-old from Paralimni with a 17-year-old co-driver from Deryneia.
YKAN members approached the cars for an investigation, but as soon as the young men realized the police, three of them tried to escape by running. One of the three was eventually stopped by YKAN members.
A search of the three cars turned up a half-smoked handmade cigarette containing green plant material and a nylon bag containing green cannabis plant weighing about 21 grams, according to police.
The three people were arrested and in a physical search carried out by the members of YKAN, cannabis weighing 17 grams was found in the possession of the 6-year-old from Paralimni, while cannabis weighing 21 grams was found in the car of the 4-year-old also from Paralimni.
The 21-year-old from Deryneia was searched but could not be located, while the 17-year-old also from Deryneia was later located at his home and arrested.
During a search of the young people's homes, the 20-year-old from Deryneia handed over to YKAN police a bag containing 0,5 grams of cannabis. The 17-year-old from Deryneia pointed to a place in Deryneia where during his escape he had thrown a bag containing 1 gram of hemp. The bag was located and received as evidence.
Court warrants were issued against all five suspects, according to which four of the five were arrested and detained, while the 21-year-old from Deryneia is still wanted.
