In the surprises of the municipal elections of last Sunday, the success of Theodoros Pyrillis was recorded, to be elected in the position of the Mayor of Paralimni. Chairman of the local committee of DISY in Paralimni, came down as an independent candidate, having as his running mate the former mayor Andreas Evangelou, who was nominated and supported by DISY for re-election. The "rebel" of DISY secured 53,27% of the votes, against 46,73% of the rival of Andreas Evangelos.

In an interview with "S", Mr. Pyrillis states that he is determined to implement his pre-election slogan, "end to the era of compromises and low-profile politics", as well as ready to claim what Paralimni deserves and to justify those who trusted him with their vote.

-Mr. Pyrilli, from the chairman of the Local Committee of DISY in Paralimni, Mayor, despite the different desire and choice of your party…

The choice of the people of Paralimni was between two alarm executives. They chose the one they considered best. This is how they saw us during the election campaign.

-Would you say that it was a rebellion against your party, to run as a rival of another DISY executive?

The party had to make a better choice. I do not consider my act a rebellion, because I made the decision to run, after being deprived of my right to participate in internal party processes.

-How do you interpret the election result in Paralimni? Was it a protest vote for the outgoing mayor or a vote of confidence in your person?

I can say that both coexisted. But if I were to give percentages, I would say that 80% of those who voted for me were a vote of confidence and 20% were a vote of protest.

We turned the page

Paralimni has always been divided into camps. Do you consider that personal and professional interests precede the common good and progress in the Municipality of Paralimni?

I would not like to make any comments. I think that since December 18 Paralimni has turned the page. My election has taken place without party support and that means a lot.

Will you try to bridge any differences between the citizens?

Differences between citizens no longer exist. A poll conducted on Monday after the elections showed that my acceptance of the people of Paralimni was 88%. This means that the people trust me, they believe that together with the Municipal Council, all together, we will lead Paralimni to the path of development and progress.

The priorities

-If I asked you to prioritize your priorities, as the new Mayor, where would you start?

We will focus on economic development and the transfer of public administration services from Larnaca to Famagusta, as these will alleviate the problem of unemployment. We also have to solve the problem of the Local Plan, the management plan of the Lake, the traffic of Protaras during the summer months, the opening of the industrial zones and much more. We really have a lot of work to do.

- In the run-up to the elections, you emphasized the fight against unemployment…

The financial crisis has hit our Municipality to a great extent. In almost every home there are at least two people who are out of work. We have committed for the next two years to focus on the construction industry and methodically implement road networks in industrial zones, an energy that can offer up to 500 new jobs for our citizens. With hard work, we will succeed.

Pernera and Kapparis are blatantly wronged

-Protaras is flourishing, Pernera has been isolated, as dozens of residents are protesting. How will you alleviate the concerns of the citizens?

Certainly Pernera and Kapparis are blatantly wronged. It is our pre-election commitment that these two areas will be upgraded as soon as possible.

-Did you find any wrong texts in general, which you will hurry to correct?

I would not like to make any comment, just point out that our priority is to create new ones and not to make corrections to old ones.
