"The government remains steadfast in its pursuits"

The assurance of the President of the Republic, Dimitris Christofias, was conveyed today by the Minister of Interior, Eleni Mavrou, at the event-gathering of the Association "To Rizokarpaso", in Dromolaxia…

Welcoming her at the event, Ms. Mavrou said that "we look forward to the time when we will all walk together in Rizokarpaso and officiate at its beautiful temple, the 'wonderful and paradoxical' according to the Synaxarist Akakios Monk, free and proud without artificial obstacles and barbed wire, free from the Turkish occupation and the settlers who grab the houses and plunder our culture ”.

"Thirty-eight years in bitter exile, far from our homes and possessions, but with a firm belief that the struggle of our people in the end will be justified," he added.

According to Ms. Mavrou, gatherings such as today “are of great value because they keep alive for all of us the memories and ties to the past, because they help us to have hope for the future and, most importantly, because they help the past to "'graft' the younger ones with the love for the place and the will to return".

He stated that "we are here today because time has not changed our will to return and justify" and added that "the connection with the place, the roots of each, have not been cut" and is through these roots, as he said, which gives birth to the hope for a return to all our occupied cities and villages, for the resolution of the Cyprus problem and the finding of a just, functional and sustainable solution ”.

Stating that Rizokarpaso has been a bulwark of national, religious and social struggles for centuries, Ms. Mavrou said that "this story continues today with our heroic martyrs trapped as protagonists and protagonists", adding that the Rizokarpas around the world the example of resistance and sacrifice ”.

"Our captives are the leaven of the return. "Our moral duty is to stand by them, to follow them and to fight for the liberation of Karpasia, Famagusta and Kyrenia, Morphou and Mesaoria", added Ms. Mavrou.

Finally, the Minister of Interior said that “mentally we are all today at the Monastery of Apostolos Andreas and we pray for the start of work for its maintenance with the assistance of the Bicommunal Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage and the active participation of the management committee of the Monastery, on behalf of the owners which is our community ”.
