The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis Kasoulidis, was elected Chairman of the Action Group of the Commonwealth Ministers, which ensures the implementation of the principles and values ​​of the Commonwealth member states.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the last day of the Commonwealth Summit, the Foreign Minister, when asked about his election as Chairman of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group, said: "The Group is committed to implementing the principles and values ​​of its members. of the Commonwealth. This is an honor, I believe, for Cyprus. I was in this team for the previous two years, but the upgrade is welcome, since it is important for Cyprus and for the name of Cyprus ".

Asked about it, he said that "the composition of the members of the Commonwealth is a microcosm of the composition of the United Nations. The fact that Cyprus was present, it was active, while it starred in various issues, the fact that contacts were made, that is, the creation of important interpersonal relations confirms that Cyprus stands very well on the international stage.

This, Mr. Kasoulidis pointed out, "one can not see it regardless, for example, of the fact that just yesterday Cyprus achieved the 4th place among 20 positions in the International Maritime Organization, and for which (Organization) 154 countries voted members of the UN. This is how international relations are created and it is our obligation where we are given the opportunity to strengthen the international status of Cyprus ".

Asked if he was satisfied with the Summit Conclusions, the Foreign Minister answered in the affirmative. He added that "first of all the Commonwealth, which is made up of countries directly affected by the effects of climate change, has taken several positions that enhance the chances of success of the COP21 Conference to be held in Paris. "If humanity lets this opportunity go to waste then I am sure that our children and especially our grandchildren will criticize us because we did not take timely measures to save the planet."
