AKEL's candidates in the Famagusta district

AKEL presented its candidates for the elections of next May today. In an event that took place this morning, the General Secretary of AKEL, Andros Kyprianou, spoke about the battle that they are called to give for Cyprus and stressed that their party's primary goal is to resolve the Cyprus issue.

In the province of Famagusta, Christakis Tziovanis, Giannakis Gabriel, Athena Zaoura, Costas Ieridis, Andreas Kazamias, Nikos Kettiros, Koukouma-Koutra Utensils, Tassos M. Kyrmosos, Gian Toumis, Giannis Pyrimos, Giannis Pyrimos, will claim the parliamentary seat.

The General Secretary of AKEL, referring to the talks that are taking place, stressed that a solution must be found that will end the occupation and colonization, exclude any possible imperialist intervention and isolate the chauvinist and nationalist elements.

He added that the solution must restore the sovereignty, independence, unity of the Republic of Cyprus and territorial integrity, but also be based on the United Nations Resolutions and High Level Agreements, International Law and the principles on which the European Union.

He also said that the Cyprus issue would be resolved, with a solution that would "demilitarize Cyprus and exclude any guarantees or rights to intervene in the internal affairs of the country by foreign powers and reunite the territory, the people, the institutions and the economy within a bi-communal, bi-zonal federation with political equality as described in United Nations texts ".

As for the cost of the solution, K. Kyprianou explained that this is an important parameter and ways to solve it should be studied. "Memorandum logics for financing the solution are not accepted, nor can the cost of the solution be an excuse not to work for it."

Finally, on the issue of the economy, the General Secretary of AKEL stated, "We are leaving the memorandum, but we are not escaping from the anti-popular policies of austerity. "The difficulties for the Cypriot people, he added, are now beginning with talk of sales, privatizations, further wage pressure, a greater storm of anti-popular policies."

Introducing the party's parliamentary candidates, K. Kyprianou stated that AKEL participates with a strong ballot, which was prepared in a completely democratic process.
