The parties started counting down the preparation of their ballots for the municipal elections next December. By the end of September, the decisions should be made and the candidates should be announced. This means that the scenario of postponement of the municipal elections should probably be deleted, and this is because no party favors something similar, nor was there a similar move by the Government. But even the scenario of having agreements in the occupied municipalities has no prospects for implementation.

In Pindarou he clarified that the Politburo in its next session that will take place within the last 10 days of September "will take decisions regarding the candidacies that will be supported by the Democratic Alarm in the various municipalities". An exercise, apparently not so easy considering the great interest that exists among the party executives to participate in the elections.

In the immediate future, special weight will be given from various directions in order to avoid double or even triple candidacies. The local actors who came en masse to the meeting the day before yesterday in Pindarou appeared optimistic about achieving this goal. However, despite the assurances in some municipalities, it is difficult to avoid confrontation between Alarm officials and the party began to compromise with the idea that for example in Engomi (Z. Kyriakou and F. Zachariadis) and Paralimni (Th. Pyrilli and G. Nikolettou) will have two DISY executives as mayoral candidates. What probably clarifies in the area of DISY is that the municipalities in which he will run with his own candidate are Nicosia (K. Giorkatzis) and Paphos (F. Faidonos).

In Limassol and Larnaca, the party began to focus on supporting candidates from other party venues. Former MPs Andreas Michailidis and Andreas Themistokleous have expressed interest in Limassol, but local officials believe that if the party decides to support another candidacy, then no problem will arise.

On the opposite bank and in AKEL, things are heading towards clarification as the party enters the phase of crisis by members and executives. After the discussions that have taken place with the party base, they will proceed in the coming days to the assemblies of members and friends of the party, where specific names will be officially included. In these assemblies it will be clear if the party has the potential and in which areas to cooperate.

Regarding the issue of the occupied municipalities and the proposal of Averof Neophytos for consensual solutions, despite the fact that the majority of political forces approach it positively, however, they also see the difficulty of its implementation. Yesterday, George Perdikis officially told the president of DISY that the Ecologists will not be present at the meeting suggested by Mr. Neophytou. Mr. Perdikis called on Mr. Neophytou to withdraw his proposal because it sends a negative message to the citizens that the parties continue to want to interfere in all the functions of democracy. He further noted that the communities of the occupied municipalities as well as the others have the right to freely choose their local rulers.

Phaedo gives them a headache

In the municipal elections chapter, the position of DISY regarding Paphos is clear and in no case was any other name other than Faidonas Faidonos mentioned. The messages that Pindarou receives are that his dominance in the upcoming municipal elections should be considered certain.

However, all his behavior and the fronts that he opens across Cyprus with government officials, but also with other factors seem to be causing headaches in Pindarou. The whole behavior of F. Faidonos was discussed at the last General Assembly of DISY without entering into an in-depth discussion. More or less they have decided that they will have to compromise with this behavior of Mr. Faidonos, hoping that the party will not pay any price.
