"Nuclear plant in Sotira" !!

By Zannetos Koumasis *:

Following an unprecedented decision by the Council of Ministers, it was decided to proceed with the construction of a nuclear plant in Sotira. The decision was made following a study conducted by the nuclear team at Dalton Nuclear Institute in Manchester. The power plant that will meet the electricity needs of the province of Famagusta is expected to be built in the livestock area of the Municipality of Sotiras, burdening the environment with the risk of radioactive contamination, putting another headache on the Mayor and members of the municipal council. to build a regional track and field stadium, a university, an amphitheater and a library.

This is how the officials and residents of the Famagusta free area imagine when the Famagusta Motorcycle Friends Club asks for permission to create a motocross track.

No nuclear plant will be built, my friends, but a motocross racing track, on a circular route with dirt and artificial jumps. This sport is very popular all over the world, his birthplace Europe and America.

A motocross track employs many young people in the sport of motocross and not kamikaze as some imagine, bringing the following benefits to the province:

- To organize Cypriot and international level competitions in order to attract local and foreign visitors,
- To enrich and provide alternative sources of tourism,
- To give new models of athletes to young people,
- To motivate young people from their involvement with motorcycles on the road, to join the sport of motorcycles,
- To consolidate the safety of the races to the young people, transporting it on the road, since the races are carried out under the strict safety regulations of the Cyprus Motorcycle Federation which is part of the COM, the JV, the World and European Motorcycle Federation.

A motocross track cannot:

- To dust any paddock with animals because it is simply not possible to race or train without a watered track. Otherwise, the motorcycles, the motorcycle tires, the eyes and the lungs of the athletes are destroyed.
- To kill any animal from noise, since motorcycles are imported to Cyprus with international CE standards with strict FIM regulations for noise levels not exceeding 94dB.
- To use drinking water or irrigation water, but water from the sewer of the municipalities of the province.
- Use the track for training at any time, but with a schedule determined by the track management committee, as the track will be fenced with controlled entry.

I am quoting photos and videos from the last motocross race of the Cyprus Motorcycle Federation that was held at the approved track of Potamia by the Nicosia Motorcyclists Club on 19/04/15. The motocross track of Potamia borders the shooting range of Nicosia and the livestock area of Idali at a distance of only 20 meters from a state-of-the-art sheep and goat farm co-financed by European programs.

Do not panic motocross track we requested, not nuclear plant.
