Attack on female police officer in Ayia Napa

A female police officer serving at the Ayia Napa police station was punched in the face by a 25-year-old man who had been arrested for attempted robbery from the bar of the church of Panagia Ayia Napa.

According to the Police, after information that some people tried to steal the bar of the church of Panagia in Ayia Napa, members of the police station went around 10.40 yesterday morning to the place where eyewitnesses pointed out two people as suspects.

Police searched a 25-year-old man from Nicosia and a 30-year-old man from Greece, a resident of Nicosia, who took them to the Ayia Napa police station for questioning.

During the interrogation, the 25-year-old attacked a female police officer and punched her in the face. The policewoman was taken to the General Hospital of Famagusta in Paralimni where due to workload she was transferred to a private clinic for examinations.

The doctors on duty found that the woman had a wound on her face and after she was given first aid she was fired.

The 25-year-old was arrested by the police and taken into custody.
