Several Ayia Napa hotels and businesses will remain open until at least the end of November to accommodate foreign visitors who are expected to prefer Cyprus following the plane crash of a Russian plane in the Sinai Peninsula.

As stated by the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Giannis Karousos, "due to the recent geopolitical developments, several flights of travel agents, especially from Russia, are transferred to Cyprus for the period November-March. "There is an increase in the tourist flow in our region from Russia, since 15 flights from Moscow and three flights from St. Petersburg have already been planned."

He added that "as a result of this development are several hotels in our area, which have remained open to have high occupancy. The Municipality of Ayia Napa declares that it is ready to host winter visitors from any country and to come and provide them with the necessary tourist experience ".

Mr. Karousos called on "all tourist businesses, hotels, leisure centers and shops to extend their operation initially until the end of November and then to extend it depending on the developments that will take place."

Answering a relevant question, the Mayor of Ayia Napa said that "it is a unique opportunity to prove to both our visitors and travel agents that we can offer an excellent tourist experience during the winter, as we have the appropriate infrastructure and the appropriate weather conditions for holidays ".

For this reason, he noted, "the Municipality took measures in order to facilitate our winter visitors. Among the measures are to keep open to the public three of the beaches of Ayia Napa, ie the port from the area of ​​Pantachou to Glyki Nero, Vathia Gonia and the Island. There will be a full presence of lifeguards on these beaches while all the necessary services will remain open ".

He also mentioned that the Municipality is preparing "a list of companies that will remain open and will be given to the hotels for the information of the visitors.
