Voting for the municipal elections continues smoothly

There are 39 municipalities throughout Cyprus, nine of which are occupied, and 349 occupied communities and 140 occupied communities.

In some of the municipalities and communities no elections are being held today since the local mayors have already been announced, due to the fact that only one candidate was running for mayor.

The polls opened at 7 in the morning. Voting ends at 6 pm with a one - hour break from 12 noon to 1 pm. An extension will be given if and if a large turnout is observed in some polling stations.

Voters are required to present their ballot paper, as this is the only way they have the right to vote, regardless of whether they are registered to vote. Additional pages can be added today at polling stations.

There are a total of 1401 polling stations in all provinces and one in the central prison. Those trapped will vote in three polling stations, one in Liopetri and two in Nicosia.

According to the Election Service, those trapped who have gone to free zones and are staying with relatives and wish to vote at another polling station are being asked to contact the Service even today to obtain special authorization.

89 caged occupied communities of the Kyrenia constituency and 114 of Famagusta have the right to vote.

Voters include 12.333 people from other EU countries, with the majority coming from Greece and the United Kingdom.

Five hundred and sixty-nine are Turkish Cypriot voters.

The sorting and counting of votes will take place on the spot, at the polling stations, immediately after the end of the voting, with the exception of a limited number of ballot boxes of occupied communities, which will be transferred for sorting and counting to a single sorting center at the Ministry of Finance.

Through the website wtv.elections.moi.gov.cy and the pan-Cypriot number 77772212 every voter can find out in advance exactly where he will vote.

The mayors and community leaders who will be elected are expected to be announced by ten o'clock on Sunday night, while the members of the Municipal / Community Councils and the School Ephorates will be announced on Monday morning.

Around 9.000 employees work for the smooth conduct of the elections, including 2.175 members of the Police Force.
