Fifteen kilos of hookah tobacco were seized at the checkpoint of Agios Dometios by the Customs Department, as well as 32 packs of cigarettes in Larnaca.

An announcement from the Customs Department states that on Friday afternoon, during the usual customs control of vehicles passing through the occupied areas at the Agios Dometios roadblock, it was found well hidden in a vehicle driven by Syros, with a fellow passenger weighing 15 kilos.

The two Syrians, residents of Paphos, were arrested for spontaneous offenses, while the amount of tobacco found, the customs duty of which amounts to € 3.132, as well as the vehicle that was used illegally for its trafficking, were confiscated by the Customs Department.

 The Director of the Customs Department accepted the written request of the arrested for out-of-court settlement of the case, with the payment of a compromise amount of € 4.500. Upon payment of the above amount, the arrested were released, while the vehicle was returned to its owner with the payment of an additional amount of return of € 500.

The tobacco was abandoned at the Customs Department.

Also, yesterday afternoon, members of the Crime Prevention Unit of the Larnaca Police Directorate, after an inspection of a vehicle driven by a Turkish Cypriot, found in it 32 boxes of 200 pieces of ZUMERRED cigarettes.

Officers from the Customs Department were called to the scene, who, after finding out that the cigarettes were tax-free, arrested the Turkish Cypriot for self-inflicted offenses, while confiscating both the cigarettes, the customs duty of which amounted to € 1.160. for their illegal transportation.

 The Director of the Customs Department accepted the written request of the arrested person for out-of-court settlement of the case with the payment of a compromise amount of € 1600. Upon payment of the above amount, the Turkish Cypriot was released, while his vehicle was returned with the payment of an additional refund amount of € 500.
The cigarettes were abandoned at the Customs Department.
