Impressive model for the regeneration of the Liopetri River (IMAGES)

A Cypriot student of architecture at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. plans the regeneration of the Liopetri River and the result is very impressive.

It is the only natural fjord in Cyprus that has been created by the influx of rainwater from the surrounding villages that poured into the sea.

A landscape of incomparable beauty, which nevertheless is quite sloppy since in addition to the fact that the vegetation around the river has been altered, the fresh water of the river has been lost, while at the same time it is filled with rough, wooden and non-wooden structures, scattered along the water , which have been made by the fishermen themselves.

Through her dissertation, Pelagia Kouzaridou sought the reconstruction of the landscape by dividing the design into two parts, that of experience and that of functionality.

First part: "The experience"

The promotion of the river landscape and its performance to the public is done by creating access from all sides. That is, in this part, which is described as an overall view of space, the environment and nature dominate. The organization of the space is done with an intense, alternating, unexpected and radical design, uniting the two ends of the river. A path that causes with its geometry. A route that offers in every part of it a different experience, a different quality of nature.

Points with high, dense planting, points with low sparse planting, but also points with more swampy planting. There is an interactive relationship of the walker - visitor with the landscape, the sea, the space. The resulting urban space is fluid, continuous with different directions offering a different experience of visiting and emotional development.

The space is designed to provide a variety of stimuli to evoke the user's memory and interest. The redevelopment also includes small point interventions along a proposed route, such as the observatory, restaurant, fishing platform and other interventions that lead the traveler to discover a landscape of special natural importance, without causing particular alteration of its landscape features. area.

Second part: "Functionality"

A way of self-organizing the current situation and in particular the activities of fishermen. There is a design of the fishing shelter, where accommodations are designed to accommodate fishermen, but also a fish market where they can sell their fish directly.

This piece is placed in a place so that it is served directly by the water, and does not obstruct the movement of the visitor in the space. PSARAGORA is a meeting point of visitors with fishermen. In addition to the practicality of the place, ie to buy fish, one comes in contact with fishing, from catching to eating fish.
