As the Lieutenant of the British Bases of Dhekelia stated in KYPE, Vassos Spyros, "Just before three this morning, a vehicle moving on the highway from Dhekelia to Protaras, at a point outside Xylofagou, the driver lost control of the car, hit the guardrail and ended up behind the fence of the highway in a groove ".

He added that inside the vehicle there were three more young people who together with the driver are all national guards and both come from Paralimni and two from Deryneia.

He also stated that "from the accident all four national guards were injured and transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Paralimni, where after they were provided with First Aid, both were fired. A soldier was detained for treatment at the Hospital and the fourth, a 19-year-old, due to the criticality of his condition was transported by ambulance to the Nicosia General Hospital where he was admitted to the operating room "after suffering head injuries.
